How It Works

Three layers between the rider and the rain

Waterproofing is not one coating — it is a system. Every MOTOSINOLL rain suit stacks these three layers, then seals every seam.

    Outer shell — sheds the first wave

    Woven nylon taffeta, polyester taffeta or oxford. A DWR grade-4 finish makes rain bead and roll off, so the membrane is never saturated. Still grade 3 after five washes.

  • 02

    Membrane — the actual barrier

    PU coating, PVC film or a 1.7PU laminate. This is where hydrostatic head is measured: 12,000 → 20,000 mmH₂O depending on construction.

    Inner lining — comfort inside

    A 45 gsm breathable mesh lifts the shell away from the body, so moisture vapour escapes instead of condensing on skin.

  • 04

    Seam sealing — where most rainwear fails

    Every seam is taped with 20 mm sealing tape rated 8,000–10,000 mmH₂O. Stitched-but-unsealed seams are the number-one leak path — we seal all of ours.

Our most-specified fabric. Nylon gives strength at 95 gsm, so the suit stays packable while the PU coating lifts hydrostatic head to the top of our range. Seams are taped to 10,000 mmH₂O — the joint where cheaper rainwear leaks.

Built for the highway, not the sidewalk

300D × 300D weave at 175 gsm. It survives 20,000 abrasion cycles, which is what matters when a suit is flapping at 100 km/h for hours. 15,000 mmH₂O holds up in sustained rain, and twin-cuff construction stops water running down the sleeve.

Every stitched seam is taped at 20 mm width, rated 8,000–10,000 mmH₂O. Unsealed seams are the most common failure point in budget rainwear.

What does 20,000 mmH₂O hydrostatic head actually mean?
It is the height of a water column the fabric holds before water passes through. 20,000 mmH₂O is our highest rating (210T nylon taffeta and 210D nylon oxford). For reference, 5,000 mm is light rain, 10,000 mm is heavy rain, and 20,000 mm handles sustained storm conditions and pressure points such as backpack straps or a rider's knees.
Which MOTOSINOLL fabric is best for heavy rain?
For the highest protection per gram, 210T nylon taffeta — 20,000 mmH₂O at just 95 gsm. For the toughest heavy-duty option, 210D nylon oxford — the same 20,000 mmH₂O at 140 gsm with 20,000 abrasion cycles. For high-volume labour orders, 190T polyester with PVC delivers 12,000 mmH₂O at the lowest unit cost.
What is the difference between PU coating and PVC coating?
PU (polyurethane) is lighter, more flexible and better for packable garments — used on our 210T nylon taffeta and both oxford builds. PVC (polyvinyl chloride) is heavier and cheaper, giving a stiff, robust hand-feel — used on our 190T and 240T polyester ranges for bulk labour protection. Neither is "better"; they serve different price points and climates.
Does breathability reduce waterproofing?
No — they are separate layers. Hydrostatic head is set by the coating or membrane; breathability is set by how vapour passes through it. Our breathable builds reach 3,000 g/m² 24h, and the elastic 1.7PU laminate reaches 8,000 g/m² 24h, both while holding 10,000–15,000 mmH₂O.
Are the seams sealed, or just stitched?
All seams are sealed with 20 mm seam tape rated 8,000–10,000 mmH₂O. This matters: a stitched-but-unsealed seam becomes the weakest point of the garment regardless of how good the fabric is — it is the most common cause of leaking rainwear.
How long does the DWR water-repellent finish last?
Our DWR finish is rated grade 4, and retains grade 3 after five home washes. It makes rain bead and roll off the surface. It is a surface treatment, not the waterproof barrier — the PU or PVC layer continues to block water even as the DWR gradually wears.
How should these garments be washed without killing the coating?
Hand wash in cold water and air dry in shade. Avoid machine washing, ironing and direct sun drying, all of which degrade the coating. Air-dry time is normally 5–8 hours, so a suit is ready for the next shift.
Can you supply fabric test reports and packing data before we order?
Yes. We issue textile and waterproof test documentation on request, and we hold full packing data for 34 SKUs — including carton dimensions, piece counts and net/gross weights — so your forwarder can plan a container before the order is placed.
